Home office – curse or blessing?

“Dad, why is that sick boy from my class’s name on there?”

That sentence from my son hit me like a punch.
I had briefly opened my work emails on the train – nothing secret, I thought.
But the patient file was visible. And my child read it.

That was my personal wake-up call.
Data protection is not just technology. It is an attitude.
And it starts right where the work is done – at the kitchen table, on the train, in the hotel WLAN.

Many companies have introduced home offices – but have never defined clear protective measures.

Often, 6 simple steps are enough to effectively protect personal data.

📉 What happens if you don’t?
Fines. Loss of trust. And in the worst case: a sentence you will never forget.

🗣️ What does the minimum protection look like for you when working remotely?
The privacy screen on the laptop? Do you also think about curious neighbors who have nothing else to do but watch or listen? And what about the trash can with work certificates?

  • Clear home office guidelines including IT & data protection regulations.
  • No obligation to use private devices “Bring Your Own Device” – voluntary, but with conditions!
  • Secure cloud solutions with backup functions, 2-factor authentication or security tokens.
  • E-mail communication only with additional content (Public Key Infrastructure, PKI) and transport encryption.
  • Web access to the private mailbox with the company laptop?
  • Regulation on storage, privacy screen & use of private devices.
  • However, the better and simpler option is: provide company laptops.
